21 Questions you MUST ask Agents
Be prepared with these questions as you interview Agents
As recruiting and interview season fast approaches, I am sharing insight into questions you should ask agents when you meet with them in an effort to mitigate you firing your agent later because you did not ask the right questions to begin with. It is important to ask these questions so there is clear understanding with your representation. Take notes and hold them accountable to their answers.
Why do you desire to represent me?
What makes me different than all the players you currently represent or have represented in the past?
What are some of your strengths business wise? Weaknesses?
How many Athletes do your personally represent?
How many Athletes does your agency represent ?
How many Athletes are you recruiting at my position? Are there any potential conflicts of interest?
How many free agents will you have this summer and how many total clients do you represent at my position?
What makes your agency different?
You’ve spent a lot of time telling me how great you are and what you can do for me and my family… Can you please tell me at least three instances in which you have failed a client?
How do you plan to empower me and my family?
What are your marketing fees?
What are your contract negotiation fees?
How much will my pre-draft training fees cost? Is it a loan or investment?
If I fire you before my second contract, will I have to pay back my pre-draft expenses?
How is the revenue generated from my fees allocated throughout your agency?
Name five teams/ five coaches that you think may be a fit for my style of play and why? Please provide tangible examples.
How accessible will you be to my day-to-day needs and concerns? Who will be my primary point of contact?
What is the corporate hierarchy at your firm?
What is your strategy when contacting teams about me?
Please explain the termination clause of our agreement, what is the fine print?
How will you establish the foundation for my post-athletic career plans?
